Do Something

Robin | August 25, 2008

“Americans cannot escape a certain responsibility for what is done in our name around the world. In a democracy, even one as corrupted as ours, ultimate authority rests with the people. We empower the government with our votes, finance it with our taxes, bolster it with our silent acquiescence. If we are passive in the face of America’s official actions overseas, we in effect endorse them.”
-Mark Hertzgaard

“The tyranny of a prince in an oligarchy is not so dangerous to public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy.”
-Charles de Secondat

.
“Science may have found a cure for most evils; but it has found no remedy for the worst of them all, the apathy of human beings.”
-Helen Keller

So, do you want to actually do something?

One of the best ways to spread info is to make copies of DVDs (Loose Change Final Cut or some other great video) and give them away to friends, family, or random people on the street. I’ll explain that in my next post.
Another great way is to make (or buy) posters that help get the truth out to the people.

Here’s the supplies needed to make smaller ones to stick to something outside:
a. Book Bag
b. Adhesive -- you can find these in the paint section of any K-Mart. I recommend the spray adhesive, but we’ve also used poster glue and a staple gun.
c. You are going to want a manila envelope to give you easy access to your posters and keep them in good shape.
d. Bike -- Cars draw attention. This is not a must, but you’ll find it a lot easier if you just park your car and use a bike to get around. It’s faster than walking and more inconspicuous.
e. Dark clothes -- More of that inconspicuousness.
f. Partner -- Extra set of eyes and an extra set of ideas. Plus, the other person can quickly get into the book bag w/out you taking it off.

Tips for posters: Print in black & white. It’s faster, cheaper, and you’re hanging this stuff up outside anyway. Also, make sure your printer program is set on black and white, even if the picture is already black and white. Your printer will try to make the black out of reds and such from your color cartridge. Spray or cover the front of your posters with glue after you put them up. This will help waterproof them.

When History Repeats, Do We Notice?

“When History Repeats, Do We Notice?” by Robin

We said: “Well, the Germans lost, the war is done.
With Europe destroyed, now we’re number one.
Now, things will be different, ’cause we’re the US of A.
We will never suffer from the same moral decay.”
But all it took was our fear and a false solution
to destroy Iraq, Vietnam, and our sacred constitution.
Hate leads to terrorism, so violence will never defeat it.
Learn some history and ask, “Did we repeat it?”
If you haven’t noticed, the bullshit has gotten rather deep,
so turn off the propaganda and stop acting like sheep.
You ask, “but is our apathy really doing that much harm?”
“No, thousands murdered is no reason for alarm…”

Over-consumption Pandemic

According to UNICEF, 30,000 children die each day due to poverty.
3 billion people live on under two dollars a day. Now look at what the world spends its money on:

Global Priority (the amount spent on these products in one year)

Cosmetics in the United States: $8 billion
Ice cream in Europe: $11 billion
Perfumes in Europe and the United States: $12 billion
Pet foods in Europe and the United States: $17 billion
Business entertainment in Japan: $35 billion
Cigarettes in Europe: $50 billion
Alcoholic drinks in Europe: $105 billion
Narcotics drugs in the world: $400 billion
Military spending in the world: $780 billion

The moral of this story is “NO, you don’t need more shit!”
And for those of you who think it would take soooo much money to fix the world, look at this:

Additional costs to achieve universal access to basic social services in ALL developing countries:

Basic education for all: $6 billion
Water and sanitation for all: $9 billion
Reproductive health for all women: $12 billion
Basic health and nutrition: $13 billion

“Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.” -Esther de Waal

“The combined military expenditures of all the world’s governments in 1987 were so large that all of the social programs of the United Nations (192 nations) could be financed for three hundred years by this expenditure.” -William H. Koetke

“You are not your job.
You are not your bank account.
You are not the clothes you wear.
You are not the contents of your wallet.
You are not your bowel cancer.
You are not your grand latte!
You are not the car you drive.
You ARE NOT your fucking khakis!”

.

“Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need.”
“The things you own end up owning you.”
-Fight Club (movie)

America: Freedom to Fascism

Robin | August 23, 2008

Determined to find the law that requires American citizens to pay income tax, producer Aaron Russo (The Rose, Trading Places) set out on a journey to find the evidence. This film which is neither left, nor right-wing is a startling examination of government. It exposes the systematic erosion of civil liberties in America since 1913 when the Federal Reserve system was fraudulently created. Through interviews with U.S. Congressmen, a former IRS Commissioner, former IRS and FBI agents and tax attorneys and authors, Russo connects the dots between money creation, federal income tax, and the national identity card, which becomes law in May 2008. This ID card will use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips which are essentially homing devices used to track people. This film shows in great detail and undeniable facts that America is moving headlong into a fascist police state.

Loose Change Final Cut is the third installment of the documentary that asks the tough questions about the 9/11 attacks and related events. This movie hopes to be the catalyst for a new independent investigation, in which the family members receive answers to their questions, and the true perpetrators of this horrendous crime are prosecuted. Interviews include: intelligence officials, engineers, physicists, and the fire fighters and other heroes who were at ground zero during the attack.
